EXTERIOR
The exterior of this vintage Spartan is very original, complete and intact. It is built like an airplane with riveted construction for a long life and durability. It has aircraft grade aluminum that can be polished up to a mirror like shine.
Frame and A-frame. The A-frame has some major rust issues. We have installed quarter inch steel angles on both sides of the A-frame so that the trailer can be towed safely. This would be the ideal Spartan to lengthen the A-frame since they are notoriously short and needs repaired anyway. The rest of the frame is rusty, but I do not see any holes or issues with the rest of the frame.
Dents damage and scratches This trailer has some minor dents, bumps and bruises but overall the exterior skin is pretty straight.
Entry door front. Has the original front entry door which is in fair condition. It does have the cool round port hole style window. There is oxidation with holes at the bottom of the door. Has the original Bargman brand lock which is in working condition but the exterior handle is broken and the interior handle is missing. No keys. Door will need new seals.
Entry door rear. Has the original rear entry door which also has the cool port hole style window. Door has oxidation with holes at the bottom. Has the original Bargman brand lock, which is in working condition, but the exterior handle is broken. No keys. Door will need new seals.
Screen door front. Has the original wood screen door which is in fair shape.
Screen door rear. Has the original wood screen door, which is in poor shape but great for a pattern.
Entry steps. Has both the original aluminum slide out steps which are in working condition.
Front hoist. Has the original Atwood brand front hoist which is untested.
Hitch coupler. Has the original hitch coupler which is in working condition.
Roof and vents. There is no apparent damage to the roof, just some minor dents and dings. Has the three aluminum roof vents which are designed to open and close. Has one of the two round roof vents for plumbing. Has a 6 inch to 8 inch wide section of asphalt roofing and tar where a shelter was originally attached. Thankfully, this is barely visible from the ground.
Exterior lights. Has all four of the original KD 540 marker lights with stainless steel bezels and glass lenses. All lenses appear to be in good condition. Has the original KD 520 tail lights with chrome bezels and glass lenses. Both lenses appear to be in good condition. Temporary tow lights will need to be added to the rear to tow the trailer home safely.
Underbelly. Original underbelly was an insulation board type material, which is pretty well shot. We typically just tear this old material off, then undercoat the bottom of the floor.
Windows, glass and seals. Has the three original plexiglass windows in the front which are showing wear. I do not see any cracks in them. We do offer new polycarbonate windows to replace these front three windows on our website. All the slider windows do have glass. One window has a BB hole in it. Has the original Marvel brand steel window in the rear which has the typical rust issues at the bottom. We do offer an aluminum replacement window for this on our website. The original quarter windows in the rear are there complete with mechanisms knobs and escutcheon plates. Both window mechanisms are good so the windows do roll up and down. All windows will need new seals.
INTERIOR
Interior is mostly original but unfortunately it has all been painted. Still does have the original AB gas stove and the original Frigidaire refrigerator and the original light fixtures.
Cabinet and closet doors. Original but painted.
Catches. Original.
Countertops. Has the original kitchen countertop with backsplash, which is all aluminum with the sink built in.
Floor. Floor appears to be solid in all areas, but honestly, it’s sort of hard to tell because there is some pretty thick plush carpet. The floor appears to be a little soft right inside the rear door. There may be other small areas too, but it is sort of hard to detect with the thick carpet.
Floor covering. Carpet in fair condition.
Table. No. But plenty of room for a freestanding table.
Unit sleeps. Currently no beds in trailer but room for up to four persons.
Walls. All the original birch paneling has been painted and some cheap luan has been installed over the top of the original paneling in areas.
RUNNING GEAR
Has the original running gear with the exception of brand new tires and wheels. We did pull grease caps and found adequate grease but did not repack the wheel bearings.
Axles and springs. Has the original drop axles with leaf spring suspension. These are rusty but everything appears to be good and solid.
Dry weight. 4975 pounds.
Hitch ball height. Approximately 18 inches.
Safety chains. No.
Hitch ball size. 2 inch.
Hubcaps. No.
Spare tire. No.
Tire condition. Has four brand new ST205-75R 15 special trailer tires mounted on new silver mod wheels with five lugs on 5 1/2 inch bolt circle.
ELECTRICAL
Has the original electrical system with four automatic reset circuit breakers. Most of the 110 V lights and outlets are working. Entire electrical system should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Lights. Has most of the original light fixtures. The wall sconces have been painted but underneath the paint is mostly brass.
Brakes. Has electric brakes on both axles but brakes are untested.
Plug for exterior lights. No
Porch light. Yes. Has the original bell type porch light which is in working condition. RV battery. No.
LP SYSTEM
Most of original LP system is missing but these items should be replaced anyway for safety reasons. Entire LP system and appliances should be checked by a certified expert before use.
Furnace. Yes. Has a non-original Duo-Therm brand RV type heater. Untested.
Gas bottles. No.
Gas light. No.
Gas regulator. No.
Range/oven. Yes, has the original AB brand stove with four burners on top and oven below. It looks like the oven may be missing some parts but I have another AB stove that could be used for parts. Stove is untested.
Refrigerator. Yes. Has the original Frigidaire 110 V refrigerator. We plugged the unit in and it does cool.
Water heater. Has an older tank type water heater under kitchen countertop.
Water heater is untested.
PLUMBING
Has some original copper tubing and some lines have been replaced with newer plumbing. This trailer was currently being used in a campground. Plumbing system and all appliances should be checked by certified expert before use.
Fresh water tank. No.
Kitchen sink. Yes. Has the original aluminum 2 bowl kitchen sink which still appears to be in pretty decent shape. There are a minor oxidation.
Lavatory. Yes. Has the original aluminum lavatory. Looks like it has been repaired around the drain so you might have to end up putting a larger drain in it.
Sewer holding tank. No.
Shower. Yes. But someone has wallpapered over the original aluminum shower walls.
Toilet. Yes. Has had a newer house type toilet added.
Gray holding tank. No.
Water intake valve. Yes.
SPECIAL
These 30 foot Spartan mansions are getting harder and harder to find. Since this has a good and original exterior shell, it would be a great candidate for restoration.
