Product Description
Here is a great solution for those broken handles so often found on the Bargman L-66 locks. This retrofit kit replaces the entire L-66 lock. This kit includes 1 brushed stainless steel knob/lever lock with 2 keys, 2 brushed stainless steel cover plates, 1 brushed stainless steel striker face plate and all necessary hardware as shown in the photos. This kit is designed for 1-1/2” thick doors but can be used on slightly thicker or thinner doors. This kit does not require you to alter the original cutout (except the hole where the striker goes through) in the entry door so an original Bargman L66 lock can always be re-installed if you can find a good original lock. The hole that the striker goes through in the door will need to be enlarged but this would not affect the appearance in any way. This can be used on both right or left hand doors. If you are not wanting to pay a crazy high price for an original Bargman L-66 lock, this may be the solution for you. Some of the parts included in this kit are custom made and if not already made, it may take up to 3 weeks to get them in.
Note: If your door has a cast aluminum frame (like some Airstreams), I would not recommend using this retrofit lock.
Note: This kit may cause interference with the operation of the screen door. Your screen door may need to be modified for this to work.

BARGMAN L-66 RETROFIT LOCK KIT
This replacement works well and looks pretty good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it looks a little odd compared to the original. Installation was fairly easy, I had to open the hole behind the striker plate a little but otherwise it fit right in.

L-66 refit kit
All in all this is a pretty straightforward install. I used a dremel with a metal burr and trimmed the hole out in a minute using the screwed on plate as a guide, Only real problems were drilling houses in the SS plate for the screws to hold the new door strike in, these need to be predrilled and tapped for the countersunk screws And the aluminum blind nuts need to be SS as well , one snapped fairly easily when I tightened it. Blue tape one side of the SS plate to the outside of the door and it will speed up the install . Put the six screws in starting from the back and you can see to mate the other four to the blind nuts

Door Kit
This door knob kit was easier than a door knob on a real house door. This works so well and covers all previous holes. A nice alternative when you can’t find the L-66 replacement. Can’t recommend more!

Best alternative or better than the original
Perfect solution for replacement of original door lock on my vintage camper. As much as I would have preferred replacing with an authentic to the camper lock, this lock works better than the original and installs quickly.

Fantastic, just what I needed! Thank you!

Didn’t quite fit
Kit didn’t work as delivered for our trailer (65 Santa Fe Cub). Our door had the L-66 latch but our door was too thick for this kit. I had to order longer bolts and matching barrel nuts then use a residential door knob. Overall all I used from this kit was the stainless plates and the good idea. Ended up costing me a fair bit more to make this all work without significantly modifying the door.

BARGMAN L-66 RETROFIT LOCK KIT
This product was great. It was attractive and of high quality, and it came with good instructions. It fit perfectly and worked properly. I didn't even have to replace the original striker plate. (but I did have to trim the door gasket to insert the new latch assembly). It is a great solution for a broken or missing or Bargman L-66 lock. I installed two of them on a 1957 Spartan Mansion. I am sure I would have spent more money and time trying to come up with a solution that wouldn't have been as elegant and functional. Plus, it arrived quickly and the service is always great. Thank you.
